WHAT IS CBD?
- One of over 400 compounds found in the Cannabis plant
- It is completely different from THC and marijuana in both uses and effects
- The wide range of uses/benefits is still actively being researched all over the world
- Consult with educated individuals to understand where you should get started
CBD has been on everyone's lips for the past few years, but many don't even know what it really is. To put it simply, CBD (or Cannabidiol) is one of over 400 kinds of compounds produced by the cannabis plant. Those different compounds are known as "cannabinoids" and I am willing to bet you have heard of at least one more.
CBD vs THC
Let's get this one out of the way. Though they are both cannabinoids that can be found in varying quantities in cannabis plants, CBD and THC are entirely different. THC is known for being the compound in marijuana that gives the user a feeling of being high. This psychoactive feature is not present in CBD use.
Many of the CBD products you try may contain a small amount of THC (0.3% or under). By keeping this miniscule amount alongside the CBD, the THC acts almost as a catalyst to help the CBD do its job more effectively. These products are known as "Full Spectrum" but there are plenty of "Broad Spectrum" products that contain 0% THC. Though the small amounts of THC in Full Spectrum products are not nearly enough to get you high, some people are still skeptical of the THC content or work at jobs that perform extremely sensitive drug tests that may pick up on such a small amount. That is where Broad Spectrum is a great choice!
WHAT DOES IT DO?
This is still being studied all over the world! So far, CBD has been shown in many studies to support healthy sleep, digestion, and immunity. It is also known to help in combatting inflammation, epilepsy, and anxiety. The list of benefits is growing regularly as new studies are completed. There is even anecdotal evidence to suggest that it has helped people suffering from things like psoriasis to anorexia to insomnia to Parkinson's.
If you would like to get a bit more technical about "what it does" then you can check out our article or video on the Endocannabinoid System.
GET THE MOST OUT OF IT...
When you are new to CBD, it is hard to get the most out of it instantly. Our recommendation is always to "start low and go slow" so that you find the right dosage, potency, and delivery for your body. This can save you a lot of money and confusion. Why waste money on a higher potency when all your body needs is the lowest?
Speaking to someone with extensive experience in using, testing, researching, and recommending CBD is one of the best first steps to take. You can always reach someone on our staff by chatting with us right here on the Lovely Leaf Naturals website. We provide that chat support, as well as free 30 minute online consultations through a web based conferencing software. Please take advantage of our experience and the rest of the articles we have provided.
Hopefully this has given you a bit of a primer to start developing your understanding of CBD. This is by no means an exhaustive explanation. As you read more here on the website, we will cover plenty of CBD topics in more detail.
